Diatomaceous Earth and the Soft machine

Public Record

May 2023

This exhibition marked my first solo show in Aotearoa New Zealand and featured a body of work comprising drawings and ceramics and was an extension of the ideas developed in the work that received the Premier Award at the Portage Ceramic Awards 2022.

The exhibition investigated the enigmatic remnants of an imagined civilisation, artefacts and traces left behind by unknown cultures or intelligences. These works explored the transformational convergence of human and non-human life: from imagined extra-solar beings to earthly life forms such as fungi, diatoms, and microbes. The result was a series of objects and images that suggested both archaeological record and speculative fiction, forms that hovered between the familiar and the alien.
