…and to that sea return

GALLERY AOP

Sept - Oct 2010

My Master’s research (completed in 2006) traced the process of working with a series of black and white photographs I had taken in 1997, during my third year of art school. This reflective exploration which you can read more about [here], also marks the pivotal transition in my practice from making figurative work with my father as muse, toward an abstract visual language.

That journey culminated in my first solo exhibition, …and to that sea return, held at Gallery AOP in Johannesburg in 2010. The exhibition brought together ink drawings from my Master’s project alongside a new body of work, including lithograph monoprints and large-scale pastel drawings. Together, these works traced a shift in focus—from personal narrative and representation to abstraction as a mode of inquiry.
