HORIZON

GALLERY AOP

February 2017

In Horizon, I began to articulate a thematic focus on origins by probing aspects of reality that resist easy comprehension—those that are either unimaginably vast or infinitesimally small. I drew visual and conceptual inspiration from two of our most powerful space telescopes at the time: Hubble and Kepler.

The Hubble Space Telescope continues to search for the most distant and ancient sources of light in the universe, offering data that reaches back to the earliest moments of time. Meanwhile, the Kepler Space Telescope has identified thousands of planetary systems within the Milky Way, expanding the scientific foundation for the possibility of life beyond Earth.

My work responds to these extended fields of vision, borrowing their formal structures to engage with the limits of perception. It reaches toward processes and scales that lie beyond our evolutionary capacity to apprehend offering not representations, but gestures toward the unseen and the unknowable.
