Micro/cosmos

In 2022, 2023, and 2024 I taught the building and casting elective at Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland. For the first time I had access to a fully equipped steel and welding workshop, which opened a new technical pathway to scale up my ceramic work and connect it more directly with the themes of the extremely large and extremely small that run through my drawing and painting. These works are constructed from welded steel armatures, over which geometric ceramic tiles are fastened using copper or bronze wire. The forms echo the stitched-together frames of astronomical imaging, referencing the composite processes through which we picture the distant reaches of the cosmos.
